After several editions of Parcs en fête, we were asked to illustrate and design the visuals for the 2025 edition. We accepted immediately: we love this kind of project, which allows us to combine our creativity with an event that spans multiple communication touchpoints. The scope of work included the main illustration, the poster design, advertisements for outdoor banners, for the post office and shopping center, layout of an A5-sized programme, and on-site signage.
The approach
We immediately hit the ground running working on defining a color palette that would represent the parks. Green naturally emerged as the primary color, blue to represent the sky, and a few warm colours to highlight certain key elements.
An important aspect of our approach was choosing a typeface for the event and a text treatment for the title that could be reused for future editions. This is essential for creating a recognizable visual style that immediately resonates when the event is announced each year. We didn’t want to create a logo, as this is an event organized by the City of Thônex and it shouldn’t compete with its logo.
Illustration and layout
We wanted to retain the illustrative style used in previous editions but add a more human touch. The idea was to include people and illustrate the attractions and key aspects of the park festival. The approach needed to be modern, minimalist, and appealing, but not to the point of feeling out of place. So we focused on the park’s signature elements: trees, spring flowers (daffodils and crocuses), and the Goldcrest/crested tit (the most common bird in the region), then fleshed out the details with pony rides, the zip line, the wooden human-propelled ferris wheel, and street food.
After a few iterations on the characters, we finally found the right balance: neither too playful nor too serious.
